Understanding Memex Credits

Memex uses a credit-based system that provides transparent pricing for AI development work. Unlike subscription models that charge whether you use the service or not, Memex credits ensure you only pay for actual AI usage.

This approach aligns costs with value—when you're building actively, you use credits for powerful AI assistance. When you're not building, you're not charged.

How Credits Work

What Are Credits?

Credits are Memex's unit of AI computation. Each interaction with the AI consumes credits based on:

  • Complexity of the request: Simple questions use fewer credits than complex code generation

  • Context size: Longer conversations require more context processing

  • Feature utilization: Advanced features like Long Context Mode may use additional credits once a conversation reaches a certain threshold.

Real-Time Usage Tracking

Memex provides transparent usage tracking so you always know your credit consumption:

Usage Indicator:

  • Located in the bottom-right corner of the interface

  • Shows current conversation's LLM context usage as a percentage

  • Updates in real-time as conversation progresses

  • Indicates when you're approaching context limits

Credit Balance:

  • Always visible in your account dashboard

  • Updates after each AI interaction

  • Shows remaining credits in your current plan or purchased package

  • Provides estimates for typical usage patterns

Credit Packs

Additional Credits: If you run out of credits included in any of our paid plans (Build or Scale), you can buy Credit Packs of different volumes:

  • Available immediately upon purchase

  • Stack with monthly plan allocations

  • Volume discounts on larger packs

  • Transparent per-credit pricing

Credit Expiration: Build and Scale plan credits roll-over with the following structure:

  • Credits included in your monthly subscription payment expire 3 months after they are acquired

  • Credits purchased from a Pack expire 3 months after the subscription renewal following the Pack purchase date

You can see detailed credit usage and expiration dates on the Usage page in the Memex app. You can find it by clicking on your profile picture -> Usage and billing -> Usage
